Southern Arkansas University Career and Internship Fair
On Friday, September 26, 2024, Southern Arkansas University’s Career Services (SAUMAG) hosted the Fall Career and Internship Fair from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm with around fifty organizations and companies in attendance. The attire for the event was business casual. Career Services helped students in need of clothing with the Career Closet (SAUMAG), where students can pick out two outfits per semester, a service that is meant to help them find interview and career-appropriate attire.
Southern Arkansas University Career Services is a department that focuses on providing SAU students with tools that will prepare them for the workforce and continued professional development. This is done through several mediums (SAUMAG), such as networking opportunities through events, mock interviews, resume reviews, and more. Each semester, SAU Career Services hosts Career and Internship Fairs that not only give students interview practice but also provide students with a chance to find an internship or full-time offer and develop a general idea of what jobs are available to them.

Some of the companies and organizations (HANDSHAKE) that attended the Career and Internship Fair included local businesses, national companies, government entities, higher education institutions, and a wide variety of more. While some companies and organizations looked for specific majors, many others had a variety of positions open in different departments that students could apply to by going through their websites and checking what was available. There were locations available for internships and jobs, not only around Arkansas, but around the country. Students could walk to each table to learn what the company was about and see if any opportunities were available, as well as a good exercise in networking and professional conduct.
Some classes had students attend the fair to offer incentives for them to explore the opportunities present. “I enjoy attending career fairs to see what is available job-wise for the major I am pursuing. I am grateful to Southern Arkansas University Career Services for taking the time to prepare these events that offer me insights into my future,” Aiden Harlin (LINKEDIN), a senior accounting major in the Rankin College of Business, stated. For many students, it is a hard time preparing for the future and the job search is daunting and complex. Events such as these by Career Services provide different opportunities and avenues to match what each student needs to obtain a successful career.
The Fall 2024 Career and Internship Fair hosted by Southern Arkansas University’s Career Services was completed within a few hours, but it saw hundreds of attendees from all departments. Many students got to hand out their resumes, expand their network, and increase their understanding of their career field and its potential. Students received merchandise and goodies from companies and organizations, ranging from hand sanitizers and lip balms to stadium seats and journals. With the conclusion of the fair, many students will look forward to seeing their futures lead to one of the companies or organizations in attendance.
